Jackson Hole

Report is based on several days of skiing in 2005 and 2006. ‘Til then the old tram was still in operation. The new tram (which will be ready for the 2008/09 season) might improve the whole situation a bit—although I doubt that the lines will not exist anymore.

The tram is a real pain and […]

Grand Targhee

Nice day trip if you ski Jackson Hole. Not very steep or let’s say very limited steep short runs. However, a great resort on a powder day. While Jackson Hole will be a zoo here you won’t have to wait at all the whole day. Grand Targhee is also known as Grand Foggy. This […]

Mt. Baker

We didn’t get any new snow overnight but with a snow base of over 4m  in 2005 and over 6 in 2011 at least we didn’t have trouble with rocks. This mountain is amazing! Not that there is a hell a lot of vertical, but it’s steeeeeep and very steeeeeep. Absolutely great cliff areas […]

Crystal Mountain

The short version: Fantastic!! The detailed version: Fantastic!! Absolutely one of my favorite mountains in North America. Easily in the top 10. I spent two days at the resort and was blown away within the first 2 runs. High-speed quads all over the mountain, two high-speed six-packs and a few slower doubles, including a […]

Alpental

It was our first time at the resort, so we didn’t really know what to expect, but I had heard good things about the steepness and the backcountry access of the slopes. We got a great impression from the first run, and it only got better as the day went along. The runs are very […]

Wolf Mountain

Formerly known as Nordic Valley. Wolf is a very small family resort that is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers. Advanced and expert skiers are not really gonna be happy up here, but that’s not what they have in mind at all. Ticket rates show that they really wanna attract families and beginners. This […]

The Canyons

Great mountain; great terrain; challenging, very steep chutes; and awesome tree skiing.

This report is based on a day of rather poor spring skiing.

The coverage is another issue. All the runs on the left side of Super Condor Express were already closed in March, not due to the icy conditions but to the non-existent snow. […]

Sundance

This description is based on a day of pure spring skiing, with marginal-to-no snow on the lower mountain and limited snow on the upper mountain. Midwinter conditions will no doubt make it much better. Only the slow chairs remain the same…

We made it to the parking lot around 10:30 a.m., and only about 40-50 […]

Solitude

A rather “small” resort if you are an expert. Great family resort for beginner to advanced. If you are going to ski powder make sure the Honeycomb is open. Without this area you will get bored pretty soon. Lines are unknown to this resort. We skied there on weekdays, weekends. and even on great […]

Snowbird

Great mountain; great terrain; challenging, very steep chutes; and awesome tree skiing. This mountain is a must for any Utah skiing vacation. If you like to ski the groomed runs, you are going to like it; but if you like challenging, steep (sometimes extremely steep) stuff, this is the place to be. The mountain […]
