British Columbia

Mt. Seymour

In contrast to Hemlock, this access road is made for huge traffic. With Vancouver just 30min away, they probably get huge weekend crowds. Today it was basically empty. But thanks to the long opening hours of 9:30am until 10pm, there is a constant coming and going of skiers, boarders, and sightseeing tourists.

The resort is […]

Mt. Cain

This review is based on only half a day of skiing at Mt. Cain and during very poor weather conditions and white out most of the time.

The website warns about the crazy access to the resort and chains are sometimes mandatory even for 4WD. We managed to turn right instead of left and spent […]

Mount Washington, Vancouver Island

Once again Mount Washington was celebrating a near record breaking YTD snow amount of 1740cm (680”) as well as a snowpack of over 7m!! (21 feet) the highest anywhere in the word at the time.

With this numbers in mind it was easy to decide on where to go next after skiing many weeks in […]

Kimberley

Not very big and not really steep except for a few runs. More a family kind of resort. People are very relaxed and easy going. No lines all day—at least not mid week. Don’t miss the very nice Bavarian Village. Great food and nice atmosphere. Great affordable accommodation. Last minute we got a 3 […]

Kicking Horse

A good resort for intermediate and the perfect resort for advanced and experts. Grooming is limited but very good. Some of the blue runs should definitely be black and most of the black runs are double blacks for sure. After skiing at KH over several years a few days a season I absolutely love […]

Hemlock Mountain

A 2h easy drive from Vancouver, and then the real driving started. Steep and slippery at first followed by unpaved, dirty, icy, and steep conditions. Reminds me a lot about the access road to Apex. Today it was all about 4WD or chains.

At 9am, only a few cars were in the parking lot and […]

Grouse Mountain

Grouse is only a short 15-30min drive from downtown Vancouver. From there you take a tram to get to the resort. Forecast was calling for bluebird, and that was the reason to go up there and get some pictures from the resort with the city and the ocean in the background. As often happens, […]

Fernie

Fernie is located about 4h south west of Calgary. If you hit the mountain after a lot of fresh snow it will be a bit of a pain ‘til the whole resort is open. They open the lower part of the mountain and then step by step the remaining part. It can take hours […]

Cypress Mountain

At first you get the impression that the resort is rather small, but this changes as you go. Not huge but big enough to keep you busy for a while. Another resort you can easily add even if you have only half a day.

Tree skiing is moderate to steep, some of it too tight. […]

Big White

Another great resort that will keep beginner to expert happy for some time. Some great tree skiing. Base on our skiing days with not be best snow I cannot really judge the resort very well, but I would definitely go back to check it out again. The first impression is quite a good one.

Update […]
