Les Marecottes

Once again the very weird „distribution“ of the snow made it extremely difficult to decide on where to go skiing. After checking for hours we decided to try out a new resort about 250km away from Zurich called Les Marecottes.

A day pass for only CHF 39 and valid at 6 different resorts nearby was […]

Zinal

Zinal is not a huge resort but has hundreds of off piste “runs.” Not very long if you stay or have to stay on the upper part of the mountain. If you can ski all the way to the valley, it is great.

The first impression in the morning was not the best. A huge […]

Wildhaus/Chäserugg

More of a family resort. Not as small as it looks on the trail map. Some off-piste skiing and even some tree skiing, although I don’t know how far you can push it before ski patrol will argue with you about wildlife and stuff.

The resorts are well connected. Great views.

Worth a day if you […]

St. Moritz

Huge resort with something for everyone. Countless free riding areas, steep couloirs, and more. It’s one of the most, if not the most, expensive resorts in Switzerland. The ski pass allows you access to not only the resort in and around St. Moritz, but also to Diavolezza and Lagalp, which are both worth a […]

Schilthorn – Mürren

You never heard about it? Well then maybe you know the movie „007 On her Majesty’s Secret Service“ This is the mountain where Mr. 007 skied and you can do that was well.

It was the first time for me and some other guys of our group. The weather forecast was not too promising but […]

Samnaun

At first, we didn’t expect any good off-piste. Grooming was good, but the line at the base in Ischgl was by far too long for midweek and especially for the 41.50 Euros you have to pay for a day pass.

It’s been about 20 years since I last skied this resort, and a lot has […]

Saas Fee

Thirty years ago, when I was still very young, I skied at this resort for the first and only time. Therefore, in 2008, it was time to go back and check it out again. I didn’t like it very much, though the poor snow conditions we had that day certainly didn’t help. Overall, I […]

Randa

T-Bar removed many years ago no only a small beginner lift (see pictures)

How it used to be: There was only one T-Bar, with very limited vertical. Great value place real beginners and lower intermediate for a day or two before heading to Zermatt.

Tip
Low elevation often leads to a short season (late start and early […]

Oberalp / Sedrun

The resorts are next to Andermatt. You need to take the train to get there, but it is included in our day pass. From what we could see, in less than two hours (we skied the whole region in one day), there is some good free-riding potential, and it is a great family resort.
This […]

Lenzerheide

Good off-piste usually starts a bit later in the season, as they are not spoiled by a large amount of snow in the early season. There is no rule for this, but be sure to check before you go there. They need a decent base to be good. Spring skiing is fantastic. Ski top […]
