Bina

Two T-Bars, that’s it – although it was in Grächen you had to buy a different ticket to use those lifts. Not a lot of vertical, but we had great fun, as there were never any lines.

Bettmeralp, Riederalp, Fiescheralp

Late in the 2008/2009 season, it was time for me to hit a mountain not far from where I once lived for over 20 years. For quite some time, the formerly independent resorts have been linked with each other so that you can easily ski at all of them in one day. Sure, you […]

Ballacker

Closed many years ago. There used to be one T-Bar when I was a child. We had our school race there, but it was too old to continue, and the snow was usually a problem too.

Andermatt / Nätschen

Right from the beginning, the potential for some great free riding is obvious. Steep chutes, great vertical, and more. We skied there on a midweek, pre-season day, and there was almost no powder competition. We went back again in April, and the competition was moderate. Power competition midwinter is insane, as locals and especially […]

Airolo

This report is based on a one-day experience after a huge dump of about 1m (40”). Most of the resort was closed, and avalanche risk was on high. We could still ski to the left and the right of the few groomed runs, and it was epic—a bit flat, but this was all related […]

4 Vallées/ Verbier

Heaven on earth! Free rider paradise. Just amazing how many steep runs on and off piste there are. It’s big enough to keep you busy for days or weeks. After only two days, I can say that the backcountry options are endless. Some of the off piste runs will bring you to a completely […]

Skiing The Secret

There are not many spots left where, most likely, nobody who reads this ever had the opportunity to ski 1200m vertical meters without any competition, and where no one could tell you in advance what to expect.
Location: Europe…Switzerland…Still not good enough? Well, then, let me tell you that it is in South Switzerland…Not ok…Sorry, […]

Zermatt

I have skied this resort probably a hundred times within the last 30+ years. A lot has changed. Old and slow T-Bars have been replaced by high-speed chairs. I even remember the first high-speed triple when it was the attraction of the resort; meanwhile, today, it seems old and rather slow.

Zermatt has one of […]
