Two T-Bars, that’s it – although it was in Grächen you had to buy a different ticket to use those lifts. Not a lot of vertical, but we had great fun, as there were never any lines.

Bettmeralp, Riederalp, Fiescheralp

Late in the 2008/2009 season, it was time for me to hit a mountain not far from where I once lived for over 20 years. For quite some time, the formerly independent resorts have been linked with each other so that you can easily ski at all of them in one day. Sure, you […]

Ballacker

Closed many years ago. There used to be one T-Bar when I was a child. We had our school race there, but it was too old to continue, and the snow was usually a problem too.

Andermatt / Nätschen

Right from the beginning, the potential for some great free riding is obvious. Steep chutes, great vertical, and more. We skied there on a midweek, pre-season day, and there was almost no powder competition. We went back again in April, and the competition was moderate. Power competition midwinter is insane, as locals and especially […]

Airolo

This report is based on a one-day experience after a huge dump of about 1m (40”). Most of the resort was closed, and avalanche risk was on high. We could still ski to the left and the right of the few groomed runs, and it was epic—a bit flat, but this was all related […]

4 Vallées/ Verbier

Heaven on earth! Free rider paradise. Just amazing how many steep runs on and off piste there are. It’s big enough to keep you busy for days or weeks. After only two days, I can say that the backcountry options are endless. Some of the off piste runs will bring you to a completely […]

Landgraaf Snowdome

The biggest snowdome in the world, at least until 2009, but this might change as there are many new snowdomes planned all over the world.

August ‘07: Part of the“4 Snowdomes in 3 Countries plus Water-ski in One Day.

520m long and even a restaurant halfway down. Best light, best lift system, absolutely great BOSE sound […]

Livigno

On the 1st of May, and almost 100% of the resort and all major lifts were open. This is what I like about a resort in the spring time: reduced lift rates and still great skiing.

Right from the start, I liked the resort a lot. Wide open areas with countless opportunities for freeriding. To […]

Gressoney

I’m sure this resort is heaven midwinter and if you get great spring-skiing conditions. We had a day of rock-hard spring snow, and any off-piste skiing was a rather big challenge. I saw many steep and very steep areas, and the free-riding potential is absolutely great. SC and BC with almost no limitation.

This report […]

Cervinia

Great intermediate to advanced groomed runs as well as off-piste skiing. I didn’t spend a lot of time there, as it is usually very busy on weekends. Until about 2005, the lift system to get back to Zermatt was terrible. A lot of slow T-Bars. Meanwhile, they built four  high-speed quads, which should improve […]
