If you like tree skiing this resort is a MUST GO. It it will keep you busy. Many double black diamond runs all over the mountain. This resort is not meant to be a beginner mountain. There is one T-Bar but even this area is not what I call a real beginner spot. Intermediate will like it but for sure advanced to expert skiers and boarders.

Make sure you have a partner if you intend to spend the day in the trees especially if you like to explore the countless ways down to the base. We found fresh lines after a few days without fresh snow, which means nobody will miss you or find you in these trees.

The lift system needs an upgrade but I don’t think this will happen soon. They actually replace one chair by a non detachable quad in 2007. A lot of new on-hill accommodation has been built during the last few years but most of it is $$$. Rossland is more the place to stay for $ or $$.

Update 2010

Great to be back after so many years. Last time I skied RED was in March 2004 together with Steve and since then many things have changed. The base area is now all about ski in ski out condos most of them luxury with private hot tub and BBQ on the balcony. Not that we often spend the needed $$$ for this kind of accommodation but sometimes you have to spoil yourself….

The triple chair at the base has been replaced by a quad chair going a bit more lookers right of the mountain and it seems that this gives some easier access to “beginner” and intermediate skiing.

One thing remained unchanged. RED is absolutely awsome when it comes to steepness, number of steep to very steep runs and the breathtaking double black diamond tree skiing. In terms of tree skiing this mountain will always be in my TOP 5 ever skied resorts. I don’t think it can get much better then this. If you like very steep to extreme tree skiing make sure to ski RED.

Update 2013

One new lift opens even more tree skiing on Grey Mountain.

Expensive slope side or much better value in Rossland.  Please say “Hello” to Tom and Linda.

Not sure if I remember that right. “Idgies” could be the one. Nice little restaurant. Reservations highly recommended because all the locals like to go there.
